Confidently ... Wrong
Zophar: “But oh, that God would speak, and open His lips against you, that He would show you the secrets of wisdom! For they would double your prudence. Know therefore that God exacts from you less than your iniquity deserves” (Job 11:5-6).
Pharaoh: “Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, nor will I let Israel go” (Ex 5:2).
Nebuchadnezzar: “If you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?” (Dn 3:15).
Pilate: “Are you not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, and power to release You?” (Jn 19:10).
The above declarations, though confidently asserted, are all wrong. The speakers are all guilty of making ignorant assumptions about God. People often give little thought to the Almighty, His nature and thoughts. They have contradictory and disconnected ideas about Him, many of which flow from their own experiences or patchwork theology. But in all four cases above, when all was said and done, the men were proven wrong and humbled. Truth was not what they expected. We must be very careful when drawing conclusions about God.
