Light Shines Successfully (Part 2)

The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. (John 1:5) Although powerful, darkness is impotent before the light. Last week we looked at Caroline Snare’s decision to become a Christian and analyzed the influences of light in her life that led to that decision. This week, we look at her sister Margaret’s decision. This is her story:

Growing up in a Christian household, I had always believed in God. We went to church on Sundays and I knew that God saved humanity from our sins. I remember my older brother’s baptism; I did not fully understand what it meant, as I was only 8 years old, but I knew that my brother was making a big decision in accepting God as his Savior. I knew it was something that I wanted to understand and learn more about. Now, going to a religious university I’ve taken several theology courses. Taking these courses has helped my knowledge of God grow more. I knew that getting baptized was something I really wanted to do. Coming home this past holiday I knew that the time was right and I knew that I fully accepted God as my Savior.

Like her sister Caroline, Margaret begins with a note on how the light of God worked in her home. Her parents were aware of God and saw fit to train up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph. 6:4). Furthermore, the example of her brother’s decision inspired her at a young age to figure out what his decision meant and entailed.

She then proceeds to discuss how that light was concretized by attending services on Sunday. Being around the saints of God contributed to her conversion. That is a visible demonstration of what the writer of Hebrews encouraged: “…let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another…” (10:23-25).

Since Margaret attends a religiously inclined school, she was bound to be presented with both facts and opinions on Who God is. Sitting in these classes prompted her to think more about Who Jesus is (cf. Mark 9:40; Phil. 1:18).

Through the influence of those displaying the light of God, Margaret Snare made the vital decision to become a Christian. Light shines. Light makes a difference. Allow God’s light to shine in you; the impact may be profound. And always know that your labors are not in vain in the Lord (1Co. 15:58).
