Jeremiah 9:24

But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me. (Jeremiah 9:24)š›

We live in a world of self-promotion.  It is often hard to tell who is bragging because they truly believe they are superior and who boasts out of insecurity.  Perhaps there is more of the latter.š›

But Scripture consistently warns against pride, which is the false elevation of oneself, for any reason.  In the previous verse God notes three areas of boasting: wisdom, might and riches.  The “self-made man” takes all credit for his achievement, which deceives him into thinking he has more control of life than he actually does.š›

But man’s highest achievement is to become acquainted with his Creator.  Of course, that is possible only by God making Himself known and helping clearing our minds of ungodliness – thus enabling us to absorb His will.  The man who has come to know God is a man who will glory in the right object and in the right proportion.  Unfortunately, in Jeremiah’s day, there were few of those.  Consequently, God gave Jerusalem up.  And today?š›
