Doxology

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! To Him be the glory forever! Amen! (Rom. 11:33, 36)

The word doxology is a combination of two Greek words: doxa (glory) and logos (word/saying). The concept is expressed in the words from Romans above.

Doxologies are relatively frequent in the Bible, particularly in the poetic literature. Although not found as often in the NT, the writers still took opportunities to burst forth in flumes of praise for the majesty of God. And these doxologies are often at pivotal moments in their writing. For instance, the thoughts above form the bridge between the doctrinal (chapters 1-11) and practical (chapters 12-16) sections of Romans.

Discovering these gems in the text should inspire awe on the part of us as readers. There should be a moment where our spirits are inflamed within us as we reflect on the grandeur of God and are lost in His wonder. Take time today to rejoice in reverent admiration at the wonders, wisdom, and knowledge of God.
