"Jesus Christ is the Same Yesterday, Today and Forever"
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)
We live in a world of constant change.
*The weather is different each day.
*News headlines change each day.
*Laws are in a constant state of flux.
*Economic conditions ebb and flow.
What is there that is solid and unchanging, something that we can count on in a world of constant motion? There isn’t an unchangeable “what,” but there is a steady, dependable “who.” And that person is Christ.
There are two senses in which this is important. The very next verse says: “Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines …”. The words of Jesus are trustworthy, and everything we hear must be measured against what He has revealed. We don’t have to skeptically wonder with Pilate: “What is truth?” Jesus is truth. We can build the foundation of our life upon Him, and we can know the truth about eternity from Him.
Secondly, we can depend on Christ always being there, for “You are the same, and Your years will not fail” (Heb 1:12). Death will rob us of friends and family, but Jesus will be with us until our last breath – and beyond.
