Person Of The Week: Judas

Judas had the same opportunities as did the other apostles. He was in the Lord’s presence for an extended period of time. He heard Jesus' teaching, saw His miracles, observed His character. He was directly warned by Jesus as to the nature of Judas' actions, much in the same way Cain was warned by God before he killed his brother.

Yet Judas entered a traitor’s agreement with the authorities and agreed to direct the apprehension of Jesus in a place of secrecy. And for what, a few coins? Was it worth it to Judas to betray the Son of God, to be forever branded with the label “traitor”? Apparently not, for he remorsefully threw the money back and took his own life.

The power of evil should frighten us. It entered the heart of one closest to Jesus. It was satisfied with nothing less than the death of God’s Son. Whatever it promised Judas for his compromise, it lied and led him to eternal destruction. We must remain on our guard and reject evil in all its forms. Evil found the weak link and exploited it. Let us determine not to be the weak link.
