Person Of The Week: Ezekiel
While Jeremiah was delivering God’s messages to the Jews in Canaan and Daniel was in captivity serving in the highest echelons of Babylonian government, Ezekiel was ministering to his countrymen who had been resettled in Babylon. Ezekiel was a prophet who was in close contact with Jehovah. The book contains numerous direct instructions and messages designed to inform the captives what would happen back in the homeland and why.
Ezekiel needs more than instructions, however; he needs encouragement. God says: “As for them, whether they hear or … refuse – yet they will know that a prophet has been among them” (Ez. 2:5). He continues: “Do not be afraid of them nor … their words, though briers and thorns are with you and you dwell among scorpions” (2:6). God knows the people will not listen, but He tells Ezekiel to preach anyway.
We can’t always measure our “success” by conversions or obvious cases of change in the lives of others. We must remain confident that God’s word will achieve what He desires, even when it seems our efforts are doing no good. Let’s faithfully do our work and leave the outcome to God.
