Word Of The Week: Peace
The concept of "peace" is a most pleasant thought, and even the sound of the word is soothing. If we've been through turmoil or disturbance of any kind -- and we all have -- then we really appreciate peace and serenity.
The most important kind of peace is peace with God. This is something we cannot achieve on our own, for we cannot pay the debt our sins have incurred. As long as we have sin on our account, we are in danger of eternal separation from God.
But Jesus died so that we don’t have to suffer that outcome:
- "For it pleased the Father ... to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him ... having made peace through the blood of His cross” (Col. 1:20).
- "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Rom. 5:1).
Jesus is the key to peace with God, peace in our consciences, peace with our fellow man, peace in our homes. Not only does He provide true peace, but He helps us develop the character that creates peace: “If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men” (Rom. 12:18).
Peace is more than simply agreeing to disagree; it is implementing the changes that make us agreeable.
