Word Of The Week: Prayer

Praying is something that most everyone has done, even if they might not consider themselves to be a strong believer in God. Life can be overwhelming, and we all experience times when we feel the need to reach out to someone greater than us -- and that someone is our Creator.

Prayer is simply communication with God. But that communication takes many forms: praise, requests, appeals for others, thanksgiving. There is great comfort and strength in knowing that God is aware of us, that He is interested in what we have to say to Him, that He knows our needs (even the ones we don’t know ourselves) and that He provides for us in many ways.

But answered prayer comes conditionally: “For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayers; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil” (I Pet. 3:12).

Jesus, by virtue of His atoning death for sin, has become the one and only mediator between God and man (I Tim. 2:5). We must be in an established relationship with Jesus before we have assurance that God will respond to our prayers. There are many spiritual blessings in Christ, but the ability to talk to God 24/7 is one of the greatest blessings of all.
